Clevios® versatility in Smart Windows shines at C-Touch Shenzhen

The spotlight was on Smart Windows powered by Clevios® conductive polymers at the highly regarded C-Touch & Display exhibition in Shenzhen, China. Our booth was a magnet for innovation seeks in the automotive display and smart touch sectors.

Smart windows are transforming how we interact with glass. By applying an electric voltage, they can control light and heat passing through a window, dimming from crystal-clear transparency to deep black. This technology is vital for thermal management in buildings and is now revolutionizing panoramic automotive glass roofs and side windows.

Every smart window relies on two transparent electrode films sandwiching an electro-optical material. Technologies vary—PDLC, SPD, electrochromic, and even organic photovoltaics—but the transparent electrode is key. Traditionally, ITO coatings have dominated, but they fall short when flexibility and durability matter. That’s where Clevios® PEDOT:PSS outdoes the competition.

Booth highlights

We showcased eight fully functional smart window demonstrators, each featuring Clevios® combined with different electro-optical technologies. One of the most talked-about highlights was the PDLC smart window endurance test, where a film—continuously twisted and bent for three days by a machine provided by our trusted partner EOC—remained fully functional without any signs of degradation, which is something ITO simply cannot achieve. This demonstration underscored Clevios®’s unique flexibility and robustness, making it ideal for curved automotive glass.

Clevios® brings unmatched benefits:

  • Flexibility and robustness for complex 3D and curved shapes
  • Low reflection for superior aesthetics
  • Compatibility with a wide range of substrates, enabling innovative designs

Close partnerships

Together with Dongwoo Fine-Chem, we presented demonstrators based on PDLC, SPD, and VPLC technologies, proving Clevios® versatility. This gave C-Touch visitors a glimpse of solar-powered smart windows—a game-changer combining light control with energy harvesting. Using organic photovoltaic technology, these windows remain transparent while generating power from near-infrared light. Dongwoo Fine-Chem’s transparent solar cell films sparked conversations about next-generation automotive interiors.

Another showstopper was a fully functional automotive side window developed with Astrace, signaling Epurio’s strong entry into the booming automotive smart window market.

With Samwo, we showcased a new Clevios®-based touch modules for appliances and automotive interiors. Epurio has enjoyed a strong business in the past years with this technology and expects steady growth in the coming years.
